Just thought I'd share this

That's awesome! I Facebooked it!
someone yarn bombed a tree near where I live. the whole tree is covered in beautiful doilies! I think they are multicolored, too. I always wanted to yarn bomb one of the statues near there, but could never figure out how; there always seems to be too many people around. Oh, well! maybe I'll start smaller!
This is really cool. Have you seen it Julie?
Libby - unfortunately not and I wont have a chance to get out and about this weekend.
To Jenevieve, Just do It! even with the people around.. I went to the roller coaster park with my son and some kid was smoking pot down the hill, this is totally not allowed in this park, but nobody said nothing!! It's peer pressure reversed.....lol You may see people but they may not "see' you ;)
we did go through the train station above this and it had also been 'yarn bombed' !
Downtown, nearby where I live, there's a pole that people just attack with their guerilla knitting- its got pom poms, it's got a nice little sweater, it's even got a pair of mittens that have been ziptied to it... I haven't seen any other yarn bombings other than a nearby tree covered in doilies, like Jenevieve described.
You can always tell when you've entered one of Cleveland's arty neighborhoods because every tree along the street has been yarn bombed in rainbow stripes. I was told it started out as actual guerrilla knitting on a few trees in a single neighborhood, but people liked it so much the city hired knitters to come out and do the rest of the trees too.

Wait, what?! Can they hire me here too? ;) That is one way I'd like to make a living ;)
Yarn bombing is so cool, it always makes me smile!
lol I'm not sure how they picked people since I never really looked any further into it, but I'd imagine joining a local art collective is a good place to start. They have a really active arts and crafting community in that area, so I think it was probably equal parts requests to city management (by the residents and businesses) and volunteering by the local groups that made it happen. All I know is one of the thrift shops in the area told me they saw people get dropped off in city vehicles to knit on all the trees.
