Globe Bar
I'd love some opinions please peeps!
I want to make a secret stash in a globe for my fella. So far I've been planning on buying a normal globe, taking it off the axis and sawing it in half so that it'll open when you take it off the axis.
But now I've found a globe-shaped ice bucket on ebay - it already opens, of course, and I could make something to sit in the bottom of it and then cover it with something else. Here it is if you need a visual idea: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/191972133096?ul_noapp=true
This would be a lot easier than the plan I had, and I've also been concerned that I wouldn't be able to remove a globe from an axis if it was metal or plastic, but I don't know if it'd look nicer to do it the proper way!
Any advice?
Hmm... that does look easier but I don't think it would be too difficult to saw a normal globe if you really wanted. Have you had a hunt around in charity shops for one? If you're able to feel it out before you start, you should get an idea if it'll saw apart easily.
Otherwise you could decorate the other one with a nicer map?
This would be such a cute gift! The one you found would work fine, but I also think it would be really nice to make one from one you find. I know that I absolutely love gifts that people have made for me because they put so much thought and effort into it! Not sure how big the globe listed is, but if you found a slightly bigger one, you may be able to fit more into it for the secret stash. I'm sure he will love it either way!!
Make sure to post photos when you're done Jenny, I can't wait to see it!
This idea sounds good, i mean i had always been a fan of items that can be used to hide or store some stuff inside them, i made a pen holder that had a compartment for storing a key and it was very cleanly done. so if u want to know about how i did it let me know
