Any ideas?

I found this picture I'd saved in my "craft ideas" folder on my computer. The website I found it on is originally Japanese, but they have an English site. I would buy one from them, except I've tried to buy from the site before, and never got what I ordered, despite many efforts to email them. I'm guessing it had something to do with overseas shipping, which I actively avoid now when there's a language barrier, because it just makes it difficult.

So basically, I'd really like to make one. The only thing is, I'm not really sure what kind of knots I'm looking at to make it look like that. It seems relatively simple but since there aren't any good shots on the site of the back of the little thing, I'm not really sure what to do.
(Note, I'm not trying to make them to sell...I just want more things to make to give away/keep around my house).
Any ideas?
