DIY Wedding Ideas?

I need more DIY Wedding ideas. My fiance and I are going to get married after I get my bachelor's degree in Fine Art. It's likely not going to be until June of 2013, but since I plan to do pretty much everything on my own, I want to get all the decorations planned way ahead of time.

So far, this is what I have down that I can do on my own:
-Pomanders, since they're easy to make and would go well with a summery wedding.
-Hand-calligraphed invitations, since I'm quite handy with a fountain pen.
-Wedding favors, since I can make soap I think I could come up with an awesome wedding soap recipe. I can also sew the favor bags from fabrics that go with the wedding.
-Centerpieces, since my mom and I have always decorated the dining table at home together for every holiday, I'm pretty sure she and I can come up with something that's awesome and elaborate but not overpowering.
-Decorative lights, because flowers and cute lights tend to go hand in hand and they're not hard to put together.

I'm lost for other ideas. I want to make our wedding something that everyone will remember without breaking the bank to do so. I'm fairly confident that I can keep the budget low all around, except maybe for the catering. The cake is going to be taken care of because our best friend offered to make it since he's an excellent baker. He makes the BEST red velvet cake I've ever tasted.

Our colors are eggplant purple, silver, white, and black. It's a casual Gothic wedding that'll likely take place on the evening of the summer solstice. Anything that goes well with summer and the evening is an idea I'll consider.

I'm definitely going to do that! I have pretty specific tastes in jewelry so I can't really trust someone else to make it for me.

What kind of favors are you making?

I plan on making wedding bell soaps and little bath sets with a soap, a handmade bath scrubbie, and some salts, but I'm trying to think of something else to make. My cousin got married a few years ago and her favors included decorated magnetic bottle openers... I'm just trying to figure out how I could decorate a corkscrew since my immediate family and friends are more into wine! lol

I'm hoping to make some resin pendants or magnets for everyone with one of the wedding flowers inside, but other than the resin things and bath sets, I don't have too many ideas for other favors yet.

i love the look of wheat grass center pieces! you plant them in whatever pot you like then let them grow and simply trim to the length you like! google wheat grass to see some awesome ideas.

If you were thinking of having candles as centre pieces you can print absolutely anything you like including photos text pictures onto baking paper. Then you wrap the baking paper with the image on it around the candel and then you get a heat gun and it transfers the image into the wax Happy

Hopefully I want to make some beaded and fimo charms and make some little cute baskets filled with sweets.

Im very particular about jewellery I'd rather make it myself than buy it and have it kept as a heirloom piece to pass down to our future children. I'm gonna venture into tiara making aswell because I want to start making personalised and bespoke bridal and prom jewellery to sell.

I love the soap idea Monika.

How about if your wedding is Summer solstace making the invitations and placecards to fit the theme with dried flowers and the colours.

The corkscrew idea is great, maybe decorated with fimo or scupley clay.

The invitations are going to be the easy part Happy I already have a template in mind for them, and since we're going to be using silk flowers for the wedding (too many people I know have allergies), I might include them as part of the invitation.

I think I might make wrist corsages or flower hair pins as a gift to all the women attending, and make something a bit more manly for the guys.

Candles are something I actually didn't think of. I think I'd be more likely to use tea lights since I'm a bit clumsy, but I can still decorate the holders!

I saw an awsome display of glasses, glass vases, pretty jars all with tea lights inside used as a centre piece in the middle of each table.
The glasses and jars were decorated with ribbon, glass etching stuff, lace etc...

And a mixture of glassware wrapped with black lace might make a lovely centre piece.

little favour boxes, the lids covered in beads that match your colour scheme, filled with little sweets in matching colours.

A lottery ticket for each guest, wrapped in ribbon to match the wedding colours.

I found a tutorial on line for making wedding bows from florists ribbon. I can find that and forward it to you, that might help.

I'll think of some others and let you know

K/x
