Stinky wool

I found some wool in a trunk in my basement. It's nice and I want to use it. But it's got that stinky, musty, hasn't-been-thought-about-in-decades basementy smell. Obviously I can't just throw it in the washer, because it will knot up and wrap around the stick in the middle and whatnot. So what am I supposed to do about it? Put it in one of those bra bags and then wash it? Make the project and wash that? Or is it too late to use it? Help please!

I would make the project and then wash it. Or wash it in the sink/tub and then hang to dry. (=

Yeah,I would probably wash it by hand and dry it too.

Hi, you could wrap it onto a flat rectangle of plastic to make it easier to wash. Then you can hang it on a washing line without it getting tangled Happy Just make a hole to peg it through

This may sound odd but if you seal it in a bag with some bicarbonate of soda- in a small container. This may neutralize the smell.Same trick can be used in fridges or teen trainers.
