Patches?

I have a pair of jeans that are bout 3 yrs old now, but as I only really wear them to and from work, I don't really mind them being all old looking. Anyway, they came with a slight "fashionable" rip in the thigh of each leg, but now they are huge holes lol I love them like that, but as I live in a freezing cold country and even wearing tights doesn't stop the cold coming through, I was wondering about possibly patching them up.
I have lots of scraps I can use, but is it totally lame lol I am not a fashion person, I have my own style, so that doesn't really bother me, but are patches just beyond wearing? Also if someone thinks I should patch them, would be great if you had some hints on what way to go about doing them. Thank you Happy

Are they on the inside of your thighs? I'm cyclist and wear my trousers rub against my seat I always get rips and holes. If they're there then I don't think anyone would notice so it wouldn't be a problem.

I don't know how easily you can match the fabric, if you want to do that at all, I'm not sure. I'd probably darn it, it'd take longer but it might show up less, and you're more likely to find a wool in the right shade. Search how to darn on google if you don't already know Happy

I don't think fashion matters, just wear what you feel comfortable in.

yeh you are right, I shouldn't care. The holes are on the front of my legs just above my knees. I think I am gonna put the patches on the inside of the jean legs. I have some black fabric with silver paisley I think I may use.
Thanks for your help Happy

I patched two pairs of jeans with material from a pair of my hubby's old jean.

I think the key to it looking nice is putting the patch material on the inside of the pants. You could even use a contrasting color for fashion sake.

The iron on backing stuff worked like a charm.

posted about it here:

Your idea was pretty good! I hate ironing too lol, I NEVER iron!!! if I can help it.

I am off on friday, so I will attempt my patches then. I think I'm gonna go for a contrasting colour, as I aint got no old denim I can rip up.

You'll have to post the results.

I don't iron. I only use my iron for craft. In fact, it's not mine. Mine is in storage from when we moved here two years ago. I borrowed my best friend's iron shortly after to no sew hem some pants, and she's never needed it since then

Thanks for your help everyone, but I have decided that they look better without the patches, so I shall just have to layer up underneath to keep warm haha
