Where to find vintage patterns?
I'm look for a good (and free or reasonably priced) resource for vintage sewing clothing patterns. any suggestions? i found some resources on the internet for original vintage patterns costing from $60 and up much higher. i want to be able to keep something left for actual materials.
You could try Burdastyle. They have a lot of different patterns that are free, but there are some for purchase as well.
What garment patterns are you looking for? Skirts, pants, dresses, or what? I could be more helpful if I knew what you were looking for in particular
bathing suit and misc beachwear mostly. I checked burdastyle, but really what i'm looking for.
You could try charity shops? It might be a long, slow process but they're probably the cheapest place to go
thanks Holly and Monika!I've been working on making my own pattern. I've done my own patterns before, just sewing a bathing suit is a new one for me.
You might want to check out the Threadbanger forums. A couple summers ago, someone was making vintage bathing suits. I can't remember if they had any info about the pattern, but it might help you with your designs.
My mom has made a couple vintage bathing suits for me... I might be able to reconstruct a pattern from them but it would take me a while.
You can check out antique shops and second hand shops such as Goodwill. I have a bunch of antique shops near my house, so they really help if you ask the storekeeper. eBay has some inexspensive crafters you can buy from if you dont mind waiting for shipping.
Hope this helps!
I wish you could visit this thrift shop by my house. I guess they somehow were donated a WHOLE box of vintage patterns. I bought a few (capes and peacoats) They are like .50 a piece I think......
so definitely try thrift shops!

besides antique shops and thrift stores, garage sales are great. it's a beautiful thing when you hit a garage or estate sale of a seamstess.
the site esty has a great selection of vintage patterns for cheap
I think it's been mentioned but honestly, try a thrift shop. Like, periodically because with a store like that, they're getting all kinds of new stuff in everyday, and no one knows what will get donated next.
I found a bunch of bran new never opened pattens from the 60's at a chain thrift store. All for 50 center. But check back because they turnover stock like no-man's business.
I keep forgetting! I will do a swap for patterns\ vintage patterns. I have sooo many patterns. Anybody that is a vet want too? I can post some photos if you all are interested.
@Krista B. I don't mind 'vetting' for a vintage pattern swap, send me a message if you're interested.
@Gertie. Have you heard of pin-up girls vintage clothing, http://www.pinupgirlclothing.com/ I'm sure they do patterns too, (try looking on ebay). I think they mostly do underwear but I think you can get swimwear too.
I was talking to a friend a while back about making my own underwear and she gave me the website for this girl who makes and sells underwear kits and patterns. They aren't that cheap but I did find swimwear patterns for sale: http://www.elingeria.de/catalog/index.php?cPath=21_136
Definitely check etsy!
