Paint brushes as makeup brushes

I have a bunch of painting brushes. So many of them I've never used!! is it safe to use them for makeup?? Yay or Nay? What do you guys think?? Ive looked at some brushes for makeup and I have some that look a lot like them! what do you think? Thanks! xoxo

I think the difference between makeup brushes and paint brushes is the shape and material. A lot of paint brushes do tend to be more coarse while the makeup brushes end up having finer bristles. Also, most makeup brushes are very specific for their uses, that's why kabuki brushes or contour brushes are shaped like so. Aside from that, makeup brushes are made to pick up the dry powders and stuff. I dunno, maybe it's just me, but I suggest you invest in some good makeup brushes. It makes your life so much easier AND your make up looks all the better.

I've used paint brushed as makeup brushes before and have had no problem. They're a fine alternative for makeup brushes. Just make sure that they are clean Happy

Indeed no problems with paint brushes. So far I haven't found make up brushes as soft as my paint brushes and I have like 12 different sizes of paint brushes for the same price as one small make up brush. Quite easy decision I think.

I use the thin ones for eyeliner and lip liner you should be fine. Trixie is right about materials and shapes of brushes for specific uses but the same goes for paint brushes too.You can get some pretty crappy ones made of synthetic material at the dollar store or you can get some pretty good quality ones at an art store for a decent price.I'd try it out to see how it looks.

I'm sure some of the brushes would work just fine but others... eh. Make up brushes are usually much softer with finer hair where as paint brushes tend to be stiffer and more coarse (they have to hold heavy materials). I think "eye shadow" brushes would be fine but I wouldn't recommend it for foundation or blush...

It depends on how stiff the bristles are, small paintbrushes with soft bristles are essentially the same as makeup brushes. Soft paintbrushes are better than makeup brushes as they are cheaper and available in more sizes and shapes. If you are using it on your skin make sure you buy nice quality individual paintbrushes rather than the value packs of cheap nasty ones. Make sure you set aside new clean brushes just for makeup and don't use them for paint. Good luck
