I hate my hair....

The hair itself, I love...it's the current 'style' I'm sporting that I hate. I have espresso-black/brown hair, and it's very thick, and naturally wavy-curly. My ex husband never let me cut it, when we were together, until I finally did a couple months after my daughter was born(she's 3, now). At the time, it was a good decision, it was super long, heavy, too hot for the then summer. But ever since then, I've been trying to find the right short spunky hair cut for me, and failing. I did have a super cute one for a little while, but for some reason, it grew out within 2 weeks. So anyway, in September/October '09 I was sick of the bob styles I'd been doing, and got it chopped of in what was supposed to be a Pixie cut, but just ended up looking like my mom's haircut. What's crazy, though, is I can't get it to grow!!! It usually grows super fast, and it's just sort of gaining volume, rather than length. I keep fantasizing about long gorgeous wavy hair, that I can braid, or pull up into cute pigtail buns, like this

Only thicker and messier. Anyway, if anyone has any ideas what I could do to encourage growth, or to make my hair enjoyable while I wait for it to get longer...please holla!

to encourage growth just watch what you eat and use a shampoo thats for growing hair or for anti-breakage or extra strength ive heard some people take prenatal vitamins and they hair grows fast!

one thing is.. it takes a while to see actually growth on naturally wavy hair.. because it shrinks when it dries.. after a while of growing.. the weight of your hair will eventually pull down the length and viola! you have longer hair.. you just have to be patient.. get regular trims and use good products on your hair.. condition like crazy and watch coloring your hair too often. Natural curly hair is naturally dry hair.. the longer you get it.. the older it is and the drier it is.. thus the reason to really condition!! hope that helps!

I wear wigs for fun, maybe you should try that? That way you can have super long hair when you want to!

Mine is the same, i have gone pretty short (my pic is from the day after i got it cut from the middle of my back to that short-back in Aug 08) It has now grown to about shoulder length! My hairdresser thins it out so that the curl comes out better and the thickness is gone, and it grows!!! I take a multi vitamin daily so that might help too!!! Hope fully that helped!!!! Good luck! ;)

Getting a regular trim will gradually encourage hair to grow out a t a faster rate than if you just let it grow out like now (also, hair will acquire more damages and split ends). Getting layers, like Melissa K. suggested, is also good, and will work really good if you do not want to chop off the overall length every time you go for your regular trim appointment: Ask your stylist to give you layers that are closer to your actual hair length, and then trim the length every 2nd appointment instead. If you are REALLY desperate to have your hair grow out fast, however, get a low energy laser treatment so hair grows out faster and thicker.
