Amazing Art: I want to make this, how would you do it?
This is actually made out of white powdered coated metal. I want to re-create an affordable version. Material would need to be durable but bendable and it would need to block enough light to be effective. Any idea's?
Here is the actual site:

From Pinterest: Use tall canvas, apply stickers, decal, etc., and spray paint. Remove Decals; hang white lights behind it.
Do you think that would work?
I don't think the canvas would let that much light through. I would make your decorations out of paper or fabric, attach them, then slice slits behind them. If it's not opaque enough I would give it a coat of gesso. I use cheap white glue mixed with baby powder. that seems tough though so I would try it the other way first. Or maybe try it that way over something transparent like mesh, vellum, or parchment paper.
I do not trust my artistic ability to do cut outs...But you are dead right about the canvas. I would destroy vellum or parchment. Maybe a lighter fabric like a white cotton? The paint over it would keep light out where I don't want it. And, I could use the stencil, decal idea.
You think?
I've seen something similar when someone dipped fabric flowers in plaster and let dry, I imagine if you dried them flat it would give a similar affect.
Spray painted flowers, glued to a canvas or other painted material (same color paint) and holes poked through the canvas outlining the flowers and letting the light shine through..... might work.
You could use aluminium cans for the flowers
Great idea's, thanks everyone.
I would make a shadow type box and tack the lights to it so when you use the fabric the danger if fire is less. I love the idea of recycling either pop cans or water bottles! Water bottles of different color would give it some color if any is wanted! Just a suggestion lol
Build a canvas frame (not too hard, just find measurements that mimic the original) and use a stapler to attach thin, off-white/ivory fabric.
Use fake flowers, paper/aluminum flowers (as suggested above), and ivory spray paint. The plaster flower idea sounds great for this, it would add a nice effect.
Cover the fabric and wood and flowers in fire-proof clear coat (i can't remember where you'd find this) and attach a low watt bulb/night light behind it and attach it to the wall?
Does this help any?
I too think a canvas frame should do the work. Just rub the canvas with a sandpaper to give it a smooth texture. Then you can start with your artistic work. You can also take some ideas from http://www.canvasmyphoto.com/ online.
