DIY The Room

Alix recreates the home of band Palaye Royale for #DIYTheRoom

Palaye Royale is a band who have been in my heart for a while now. I find everything from there music to there style so unique and beautiful. So here's what I think their house would look like made with DIY projects.

I made it really homely, because that is me, I really loves some of the projects and none of them look too difficult, I think even I could do it. I could have seen this room may be being something like the Queen Mother may have had, a quirky little gettaway!

Judith recreates her new dream workspace for today's #DIYTheRoom

I have picked out 10 projects for my new re-vamped work room. Right now it is a mess-a dull and uninspiring room in our cellar. I sew clothes and small things, quilt, make jewellery, work with wool-feltmaking, scrap book and am always busy with various arts and crafts projects. Sometimes I have groups of friends in for classes in PMC jewellery and sewing, so I need a big table for my projects and a lot of chairs, a small table for my sewing machine and serger and lighting over the table. I would go for bright, bold colours and bling-inspiration and glam! I love the 70’s colours and patterns, so I would opt for the orange, yellow, pink, green, blue colour scheme with crazy big splashes of colour everywhere-alongside the glitter and bling! I have got lots of scraps of bright fabrics and bucket-loads of buttons for the magnets- making them would be my ”sitting-in-front-of-the-tv-in-the-evenings” project and the paper weights I could use for keeping my paper pattern pieces flat on the fabric when sewing. A really big gilded frame would be great to show off my jewellery and keep it all organized and the cabinet would be perfect for my beads, silver clay and all the bits and pieces needed for my projects The pallet sofa would be nice to curl up in when I work on my hand quilting, embroidery, or sewing. Both the sofa and the floor lamp would be painted and covered with 70’s style fabrics. I can’t wait to get started! :-)

Cheryl recreates the cosy book filled home of TV detective Sherlock Holmes for DIYTheRoom.

I've been intrigued with Sherlock's Flat from the first episode; the wallpaper, the scattered papers, the various science experiments. Every time I look at a photo or watch an episode, I seem to spot something new that I hadn't noticed before. The flat seems to be quite dark which also makes it seem cozy, especially with all of the books spilling off the shelves and the tea cups strewn about. The flat is bursting with information about all kinds of things, which makes sense since Sherlock is a detective, after all. This flat seems like the perfect place to be on a rainy day with the lights low, a hot cup of tea, and reading a good book in one of the armchairs.

Ginnie from HelloLittleHome recreates the inspiring workspace of Diane Von Furstenberg for #DIYTheRoom

Diane Von Furstenberg's office is the epitome of a creative work space. It's full of fun colors, inspirational items, and beautiful art. and To capture the look, I chose a combination of glam, yet functional accessories and paired them with plenty of bright colors.

Cat from The Rustic Willow recreates the stylish home of Lauren Conrad for #DIYTheRoom

Lauren Conrad exudes feminism, so when I was designing her living room, I knew that I wanted to incorporate that. I wanted it to be light, bright and airy with a lot of white and a lot of floral accents. I think all of the projects I rounded up fit that description, and would all complement each other together perfectly in her living room!

Kerry and Andy recreate the stylish home of designer Orla Kiely.

Fashion, textile and housewares designer Orla Kiely is known for her bold, graphic prints inspired by 1960s modernism, and her own home reflects this same style. She has filled her London townhouse with lots of bright colors, wood furniture and her iconic patterns on throw pillows and wallpaper. We love how she has blended vintage and modern to make her home look cheerful and unique, and we'd love to recreate this midcentury look in our home, too!

Jane creates a room perfect for any music lover.

My inspiration was my recent trip to visit my daughter – she and her husband both love music, modern and classical, and their spare bedroom doubles as a music room, both for listening to music and playing it. They are also both keen on recycling and reusing where possible, so the projects that use old sheet music, scratched records and out-of-date cassette tapes would suit their room perfectly.

Nathalie recreates the nature inspired rustic styke of a Mori girl's room.

I chose a mori girl theme. Mori (forest) girl is a Japanese street fashion style, looking sort of like a forest fairy. To me, it evokes a feeling of warmth and cosiness, and the happiness you feel when surrounded by nature.

Heather recreates the gothic style of Morticia Addams home from The Addams Family.

When I was growing up I loved watching the Addams family and Morticia Addams was who I dreamed of growing up to be she oozed class, was a strong confident woman and had hair to die for (I'm fair and curly :( ) she was also quite a crafty lady, with her love of gardening, knitting and sewing. Even after all these years I still think she's an awesome character so I have hopefully made a list that she would approve of :)
