About

Transgendered 70 year old recycled teenager. Happily Married with two daughters and two grandchildren.

Would like to try making some of my own clothes and have found much inspiration here on Cut out and keep.

Have an interest in corset making and have five ready made corsets, am still gathering ideas and materials to make one of my own. Vollers have been very helpfull to me.

Have an interest in electronics and collecting old cars, I have two Minis a 1971 850 and a 1973 850 under reconstruction. So its not just trying to sew clothes that keeps me busy.

Rather than deliver a lot of info about me do feel free to drop me a line or two and I will try to answer your questions Happy

I have an old Singer that came with 2 boxes of cam wheels. Each one creates a different stitch. They have to be put into a housing on the machine to work. I haven't seen another one like mine either. If you are coming to the UK try Camden town market in London. It's quirky and a bit difficult to box into any catorgory. Enjoy your trip. I live in Northern England where we still have some local people who fix things. Down South tends to be buy stuff new. I dislike the throw away society too as it is so wasteful. Happy crafting Happy

Hello Carla...ummm...cam shafts can be tricky. I've had problems with timing on one of my older machines and I know it takes ages to balance. It's a bit like setting a timing chain on a four stroke engine...top dead centre....Lol. I used to spent time in our garage when my dad's eyes starting failing for the details. Singer machines use the same basic machined pieces as Brother. Are there any shops near you that do repairs because they sometimes keep pieces from broken machines that they cannot fix as spares. Hope you can get a reasonable priced part for your machine. Happy crafting and blessings for a fun weekend Happy

Hello Carla. Thank you for your friend request. Im glad to be added Happy It's a shame you don't live closer to me. I have 5 sewing machines and you could have used them. They all do slightly different things and one is a vintage Victorian one. I cannot use them at the moment as I have problems with my arms, shoulders and hands. Jet is right about thinking of getting a good second hand one. I find the older ones are much stronger and were built to last. Not like the new plastic ones that have failures built in so you have to replace them more.
3rd is a brilliant placing for an untested car Happy My brother now makes trikes and enters them into car/bike rallys. He got first place for his cherry red trike with an 1100 engine. He made twisted secondary forks for it and a beautiful king and queen seat. It took him nearly a year to build so he was jumping round when he won ;)
My partner was in the Royal Engineers and I trained as a mechanical engineer and jeweller so we talk metal and construction all the time....Lol
On corsets. I usually try out patterns on my body form using cheap curtain lining. I use thin tape on the form to get the right position of seams. It saves a lot of time. You are right about playing around with the pattern to get a good fit. I taught a friend to sew and told him the most important thing is to spend time getting the pattern right as it is awkward to change things when the fabric is cut out.

glad she is a great fine friend.
hey how are you doing ?
i was yesterday very tired out of all sort of t hings which i had to do for the moving , so i didn't had the time to write back.
but ... a new day and new chances.LOL
hummm mayby you can buy and seccond hand machine , the new ones are very expensive too when you want to buy a real good one.
I know there are less expensive ones too but they don't can't do all the jobs we wants.
but i think you can buy those seccond hands better in a sewing machine shop so you will got some quarantee time.
you're handy with machines so mayby it's a smart solution for you.
hey have a great day and i will be carefull , do the same, be gentle to yourself;-D
hugs and kisses ;-D

Hello Carla. My dearest friend Jet told me that you like to make corsets...me too. I have put two of my projects on the site with pattern instructions and more info in the comments section. The victorian style corset links through to a corset generator page. It gives step by step instructions to draw out the pattern. I've used it for several corsets. I added a back eyelet block on each end for strength and comfort. It's a good one piece pattern maker. I've also done a gathered bustle pattern that you may like.
My brother used to fix up old minis too. He had a 1968 cooper which he put a 1300 GT engine in and wide wheels. It was sunset yellow and had a vinyl roof and lots of chrome. We got noticed driving down the road...Lol I learnt how to weld and panel beat to make body parts for cars but my favourite thing was taping up cars for spray painting. I think it was because it was relaxing. I learnt to cook when I left home as I spent more time in the garage than the kitchen ;D As for being a recycled teenager I can relate to that. I tell my teenage daughter I will be 19 till I die ;D Many blessings and happy crafting x
