About
Hi all. My name is Kasandra Zavrie-Higdon. It's pretty much pronounced as it is spelled. Who am I? That's the ultimate existential question. To quote Edie Brickell & the New Bohemians, "What I am is what I am", or as Popeye once said, "I am what I am and that's all that I am." At any rate, I've been around the block a few times, I've had several actual careers in this life time including but not limited to, video camera operator for local cable company (back when it was Jones Intercable), graphic artist (which I can do either via computer or the old fashioned way, by hand. Yes, I have "cut color" by hand. I actually like playing with ruby-lith.). I've ran a small printing press, worked at more than a few newspapers (including the Racine Journal-Times), been the head of an advertising department, been the art department head at a couple of smallish newspapers and a couple of magazines. I've been an actual "on-air personality" for WKLH-FM, 93-QFM, WBZN, WLTQ, FM-106, WGTD-FM and last but not least WLUM-FM (102.1) under the moniker of Teresa Harris.
For personal reasons, I left radio behind, but not my love for music. I still DJ when I have time and live stream. Currently my tower is "dead" and I must rebuild it before I can go on and DJ or live stream. I plan on doing podcasts, when the computer is back up and running, for our magazine that my daughter and I have created named Victorian Gothic & Steampunk Magazine or VGS Magazine for short. We're currently making a name for ourselves in the Steampunk world, which is something I didn't even dream would happen this fast. Still, we are in our infancy and haven't made any money yet. It will happen. I'm studying for the SharePoint Development/Web Developer program and I currently (after this semester) have just 2 classes left to finish the program (just the SharePoint classes and I'm done!).
I'm currently working at Amazon as a problem solver/receiving clerk/do whatever they tell me to with inventory person. I work with the MSQL server at Amazon directly so I do my best not to make mistakes that I have to fix later. I'm planning on working in the IT department so I can fund my magazine better and pursuit my new found hobbies of Cosplaying geeky female characters I admire and making up a few as I go along. I sew, knit, write, photograph, play video games (I live in Second Life when time permits) and make costumes. I'm currently learning C++ in my spare time because there's a huge calling for the knowledge and it's also the platform that Second Life was created on so I can make my world even more special on line. I know CAD and I'm learning the joys of mesh. Wire-frame is pretty freaking cool! I love making virtual things. I love coding in HTML5. I originally learned HTML in 2000 and I've fallen even more deeply in love with it since it has been upgraded to HTML5.
I'm a perpetual student. I've been in school over 3/4 of my life. I currently hold 2 Associate degrees, one in journalism and one in computer science and engineering. I have a Bachelor of Science degree in Social Science because I found it fascinating. I study quantum physics in my spare time and I love string theory (which I don't really see as a theory). I tend to read science books for fun.
I'm married and my husband is currently in the SharePoint development classes as well. I have 4 children, all pretty much grown (even though they don't act like it), 2 cats (that I adore and who adore me), 2 fish and 2 geckos. So, as you can see, for me to introduce myself isn't really that easy, for I am not at all what I have done or can do but the perhaps the sum of my creation and more. My existence in this plane is to learn.
