About

Melanie Bikowski grew up in Norfolk, VA. She studied Creative Writing at Old Dominion University. She studies painting at the Torpedo Factory in Alexandria, VA with the Art League and mentor, Beverly Ryan.
As a child, Melanie found herself drawn to the visual arts. She created installations concerning botanicals and poetry throughout her grade school career and when she went to college, she put the paint brush down to set her primary focus on developing her voice as a poet. In her free time, she spent many hours traveling and dancing in dark warehouses filled with Graffiti and loud Dance Music, which inspired her to expand her research on the thin veil between realism and imagination.
She spent several years working on her poetry, where she found herself being published in online journals like Elephant Journal and Soul Bloom. She is constantly studying and interested in the evolution of our collective energy in this vast universe, which is why she turned to visual art. Her more personal quest in the visual arts began to emerge as she became involved in painting after her move to Alexandria, VA from her hometown.
Her return to painting in 2013 allowed her to research a more direct, colorful, conscious, and mindful expression of her ideas. She works with acrylic on canvas and paper, and for the last month, she has began in the venture of creating one completed painting in an adventure she has coined 365 days of Art. In her freetime, she travels the world hiking and experiencing Nature’s Playground with her family. She still writes poetry and keeps up her blog on insight and awareness.
Please contact her anytime, she is currently taking on commission projects, freelance writing work, and portraits, and besides, she loves to chat!
