About

Approaching 70 and a self taught sewer, cross stitcher and budding artist.Spent all my working life in sales meeting customers and driving between calls. For exersize I worked most evenings in a restaurant as barman/winewaiter. At weekends I either worked on a small farm assisting with all the jobs that were required to run a small live stock farm. If not needed on the farm I assisted the local footpath and bridleway restorer. Which involved erecting styles small foot bridges and fencing. All equipment and materials had to be carried to the site which on occasions was across 3-4 fields. At that time I honestly believed that this form of manual labour was good for keeping me fit. But later in life I found that it had put massive strain on my skeletal structure causing excessive wear and tear, in particular on the spine. For my troubles I am now registered disabled and in a wheelchair. Nobody's fault but my own. I needed to find some hobbies that I could do that would not put strain on affected areas. So sewing, cross stitch etc was taken on first as a challenge. I now feel that I have reached an intermediate level learning from the computer and books.
An update in 2014 I was told by the optician that I had Cataracts forming in both eyes. I know my GP has sent a letter out to someone about this but so far 2016 no action. I desperately want to continue with my hobbies but am unsure just how long I can manage this. I am already suffering double and blurred vision frequently. Maybe a trip to Switzerland might be called for.
