About
♥ January 2011 ♥
Mike and I met when he was in the Navy with Steve. We met in April '85 and got married in August '85 (could have been love at 1st sight, huh?) After he got out of the Navy he was out for 3 years and then went into the Marine Corps. So the 1st 10 years we were married we lived in 6 different states. But we really did love it. It was only the cut backs that led to the end of that career.
Anyway, after trying for 10 years to have a baby we were blessed with Josh! Then it took us another 4 years to have Oliver. But when we decided to try 1 more time, Grace was ready and here that same year!
Our Grace has a genetic disorder called Angelman Syndrome. This affects her speech and movement. She won't be able to really speak much, maybe a few words at one point, but it isn't clear if she'll use those words appropriately. She understands EVERYTHING you say though. We have really been working on sign language and using pictures, but that will depend on her fine motor skills. She started experiencing seizures in July of 2007, that is part of the syndrome. We have been blessed with a wonderful Neurologist and meds to help with that. She just started walking in Nov. 2006. :0) That was such a blessing from God!! We treasure our kids so much, we couldn't be happier to be so blessed.
I had been going to school full time for 3 years to get my Associate's Degree in Early Childhood Education and graduated in May 2009! Yipppeee!!! I was so proud! I am hoping to work with children with special needs somehow, so we'll see where that glorious road takes me.
We have lived in the Milwaukee area since '95, this is where Mike grew up. He is #9 of 10 kids, so that is heck of a lot of family!!
