About

Jessica (Barten) Whitehouse

I am a mom, wife, sister, daughter. I am married with three children.

I want to meet new friends and make art. I wish I weren't so shy. I don't know a lot of people around here locally, and don't spend much time out of the house.

I love my family, movies, good books, quiet times

I dream about rainbows and unicorns. I like bright vivid colors and all things fantasy.

In June 2011, I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. I was 17 weeks pregnant with our youngest son. In July, I had a total thyroidectomy, but could not begin cancer treatment until after my son was born. He arrived 8 weeks early in October, and in November I underwent radioactive iodine treatment and 10 days of complete isolation.

So far, full-body MRI shows that the cancer is still contained within the tissues in my neck and has not migrated elsewhere. The cancer cells should continue to die off over the next several weeks due to the radiation exposure. I will have another MRI in six months. If there is still a residual tumor, I will face another round of RAI. Hopefully by then, I will not have a recurrence and will be given a clean bill of health.
