When did you first start sewing and how did you learn?
My mom taught me to sew when I was young, maybe 6 or 7. We started with easy projects, and then moved on to more complex ones using patterns. I can remember making lots of ugly floral skirts!
Can you remember the first thing you made?
I'm pretty sure it was a scrunchie. It was the 80's after all!
Do you have any favourite pattern designers or celebrity sewers?
I find much of my inspiration online (I swear, once I got to the end of Pinterest) so my favorite sewers are from around the blogosphere. The Selfish Seamstress is one of my all-time faves... her work is so stylish and inspiring!
What's your sewing room like and how do you organize your stash?
In a perfect world, I'd have a whole sewing room with a desk and cabinets for all of my fabric. In reality, I keep my sewing machine in a closet and pull it out onto the kitchen table when I need it. And I spread my materials all over the room.
What music/podcasts/TV shows do you love to stitch along to?
I have a playlist that I affectionately call my "hipster mix" that's filled with all kinds of alternative music. And then on other, more laid-back kinds of days, I listen to bluegrass.... Old Crow Medicine Show and The Wood Brothers top the list.
Do you do any other crafts and what are your hobbies?
I'll try any craft once. Or twice. Anything creative is fair game, in my book! I also love to go hiking or try out new restaurants when I'm not crafting. I think I might be a closet foodie.
