When did you first start sewing and how did you learn?
I asked for my first sewing machine when I was 8, but it was a tiny frustrating hand held thing. I dabbled throughout my 20’s but only found the patience to follow a pattern in my early 30’s. This changed everything.
Can you remember the first thing you made?
Not sewing related I made a mermaid diorama and folded paper furniture for my dolls around 1980-1981.
Do you have any favourite pattern designers or celebrity sewers?
I prefer Oliver + S patters for when I want to create a polished piece while refining skills.
What's your sewing room like and how do you organize your stash?
I organize by rainbow colors on a bookcase. Scraps go into baskets. Sometimes they are folded nicely but right now they are not. I have an ikea wall system of drawers that holds most of my notions. It’s a system of organized chaos. It could be much tidier but I’d just mess it up once I started working.
What music/podcasts/TV shows do you love to stitch along to?
I like Ray Lamontagne, Jose Gonzalez, M. Ward, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and Brigitte Bardot on my Pandora.
Do you do any other crafts and what are your hobbies?
I have been knitting like a fiend since August. On a good day I call myself a runner. I’m big into reading and interior design research.
