Refresh your shelves and home decor with a fresh coat of paint!
It's amazing to me how a fresh coat of paint can really transform a piece and bring it into the style of your home.

This shelving unit is a staple in our house. We've had this thing since I was in college, and it has followed us in all 10 of our moves (yes, 10), but was in need of a refresh.

Nothing that spray paint can't handle!

    Step 1

Take the shelving unit apart. We removed the mirror, bulletin board, as well as the hooks so we could update each piece separately.

    Step 2

Spray paint the frame. Make sure you're using long, even strokes to ensure that there are no paint drips. I typically put on about three thin coats.

    Step 3

I spray painted the hooks a metal color, which seemed to work better with the white frame.

    Step 4

I wanted to bring some design into this shelf, so using blue painters tape and some mint paint I had leftover from our walls, I painted stripes on the bulletin board portion of the shelf.

  • Step 5

Allow everything to dry for about 24 hours before reassembling to ensure that things don't stick together if you ever want to paint again. And then you're done!
