I reckon u should just ...
1. cut the whole material stuff off
2. Sew nylon on where the umbrella material was on..
3. cut holes through it :O
4. Done!

I wasn't looking for neat and tidy. I was just thinking that if the holes weren't hemmed then they would just keep getting bigger over time, and then the whole thing would just be a few scraps of fabric and thread. And you said it took you two days to finish this, if it took me the same amount of time, and it came out awesome as yours did, then I wouldn't want two days of hard work to go to waste.
Uhm, well, the whole point of the thing is to look ragged, torn and worn so I didn't care about 'snaggings' or runs. So I didn't secure any edges or hem anything either. If you want a neat, tidy parasol, this isn't the project for it...
Yeah I didn't think a folding one would work. Basically snagging is when the fabric of your tights, or hose, gets caught on something and it makes a hole in the fabric. Did you sew up the edges of the holes you made?
Yeah I didn't think a folding one would work ether. In America "snagging" on a pair of tights or hose is when the nylon gets caught on something, like a zipper, and causes a hole to start, or worse a run on the leg of the nylon. Did you sew up the seams around the holes you made?
I love this, and I want try one for myself. What kind of umbrella did you use? The tall walking stick kind, or the smaller compact folding kind. And do you have snagging issues when you close it up?
Pantyhose and tights are DIFFERENT.
Tights are thicker and made of diff materials.
Pantyhose/Hose/nylons in the US are thinner and traditionally worn in skin tone with heels.
Pantyhose are the same as knee high nylons or thigh highs.
Awww, thank you all for your nice words.
If you try and succeed, PLEASE show me! ( I guess this thing would look FABULOUS with a smaller childs umbrella... )
@ Pumpernickel Babe: dead English Nanny sound fun and I -love- the idea!
@ the "tights"-problem: Err, I had a feeling it was the right word?! Thank you ladies for explaining!

That is so CUTE!! I'll make one for my friend for her birthday, it's coming up and she's going to be a dead English Nanny for Halloween (long story, don't ask, lol)
@camilaustral: I can't stand it, too, but the song hit me while posting this! ^^
@Laura N.: Uhm, I guess a tutorial would be rather useless because once you ripped off the original fabric, you're swimming in shoreless waters and just have to try and go with the flow...
love ur look too, and the corset

Stealing looks - esp. intentionally and furthermore with a declaration o.O - is super lame.........
