About
This is actually two yokai (Japanese monsters) combined into one!
This is the Kuchisake/Futakuchi Onna. In Japan, she is a phantom of urban legend - a beautiful young woman who comes to you with a mask upon her face and asks you whether or not you believe she is pretty. If you tell her 'yes', she will rip off the mask and show you her horribly mutilated face and ask you again. If you scream, she'll murder you with a meat cleaver she keeps on her person. If you answer 'No' and run, she'll chase you down and kill you anyway! There are ways to defeat her but I'm not letting that secret out.
The Futakuchi Onna (the back-side of this doll) is quite different. She is a sheltered and complacent woman who, to please her samurai husband, eats very little. As a result, while she sleeps, her hair becomes alive and a mouth grows upon the back of her skull. The hair lends itself to be like arms and feeds her gaping maw feverishly.
So why did I choose to combine these two distinct obakemono into one doll? That's a secret that I am afraid you'd have to get to know me to understand -- but also, I thought my tattoo artist would appreciate a creepy gift. ^_^
