About
Messenger bag for the whimsical Gothic kid
Skillya is a red and black skull messenger bag with original art by Las Vegas artist Gina Quarantro, used with permission. The front flap has a washable fabric print of Gina's skull painting framed with playful meandering rayon stitching details and fray edge accents.
I have no idea why my daughter named the bag Skillya, but it was her turn to dream up the name.
This bag was made up using the free Burda Style pattern Diana. It went together quickly and the instructions were easy to follow. The bag is made up in such a way as to be fully reversible, although for this one, you wouldn't do that as it would hide the art on the flap. If you use cotton or a lighter weight material instead of denim or canvas as the pattern calls for, I do recommend using interfacing on all the pieces so the bag has more body.
Messenger bag measures about 11" x 11." Inside has a stacked double pocket. Front panel is the same red as the handle, remainder of the bag is a smooth black solid (feels like dress slacks material). The bag is washable by hand in cold.
