Simply Glamorous
Think glitter and shimmer, jewel colours and texture – this is the ultimate party look and the effects can
be dazzling.
Everyone needs a touch of sparkle in their life and this high-impact, theatrical look, combining bold colours and shimmery textures, can be a real showstopper. On our model (previous spread), I wanted to demonstrate the ultimate Showgirl look, with a statement eye full of strong colours and high-shine textures topped off with fluttery glitter lashes, and paired with glitter-kissed red lips and rhinestone-embellished nail art. Elle, whom I transformed into a sparkly princess, is only 21, so I could afford to apply a lot of glitter and vibrant colour. Her ‘English rose’ complexion could carry
off the bright palette and I offset the cool tones with light-reflecting gold pigment and glitter, together with the pretty pinks on her cheeks and lips, which keep the look fresh and youthful. Glitter combined with strong colour can be breathtaking, but if it’s too much for you, adapt the look with neutral tones (bone, taupe and brown with black mascara), then add a splash of glitter. If you don’t want to use glitter, which is quite grainy, high-impact colour pigment gives a similar effect. It sticks to the lid easily and can be used with cream or powder eyeshadow without needing another medium to make it stick.
Elle is a pretty girl of 21, whom I knew would make the perfect Showgirl. Not only do the shimmery textures and cool tones suit her young, fair skin, but her bubbly character has as much sparkle as the make-up.

Step 1
face
After prepping as usual, I used an illuminating primer, paying particular attention to her eyelids – priming the eyes is especially important when they are going to have lots of texture on them, as
it gives a good base that ensures the eye make-up will last as long as possible.
Then I used a lightweight liquid foundation, as I wanted to keep her young skin looking dewy and fresh. -
Step 3
eyes
I love the fullness of Elle’s eyebrows and wanted to keep them looking very natural.
I tweezed them lightly to remove any stray hairs, then brushed them up and filled them in where necessary with a light brown brow powder and an angled brush. Then I applied a cream eyeshadow in a cool ivory tone all over the lid with a medium-sized flat brush. -
Step 11
To add the showgirl shimmer, I first applied a high-shine gold pigment onto the first part of the eyelid, taking it from the inner corner and fading it towards the middle section of the lid. Pigment travels, so add a very little at a time and build it up gradually so that it doesn’t overpower the eye. Then, using a flat brush,
I pressed a little gold glitter on top of this to give a champagne-coloured sparkly texture.
