About
Not the pockets you need. But the pockets you deserve.
When the dress-code calls for something fancy and festive you might still want to keep your hands free - maybe they have champagne. Nice dresses usually don't have pockets. Old second hand dresses usually have shoulder pads. The math is quite obvious. Lose the thing you don't want and use it to create something you've always sort of missed.

Step 3
The pockets are basically shaped like hearts. You will need 4 pieces. Two of them are made from the same fabric you saved when unthreading the shoulder pads. The other two are cut from a material that's color resembles the dress. If you can find the same material or the shoulder pads are large enough you can make the whole pocket from the same fabric.
Note that the pieces are mirrored. -
Step 4
Sew together the pockets leaving only the straight side open. If your fabric has a visible inner and outer side use the outer side as the inside of your pocket.

Step 5
Imagine you have something small and valuable in your hand that you want to keep close to you but out of sight. This could be your keys, a tiny gift from a child, your wedding ring... Now place your hand on your hip as if you were to hide this thing in your pocket. There. That is the place where the pocket goes. Mark it with a pin and pick the side stitches of your dress starting from the pin and going down for the length of your pocket.
