Paper Marbling Using Shaving Cream

• 

  Step 1

  First, tape off the back of your envelopes and paper. This will ensure that no food coloring bleeds to the other side.

• 

  Step 2

  Fill your pan with shaving cream. Make sure that there is enough that the shaving cream covers the bottom.

  Step 3

  Decide what color you would like to be your base color and add 5-7 drops of that color to the shaving cream.

• 

  Step 4

  Gently mix the food coloring with a spatula to create a marbling effect. Don't mix too much or your colors will blend.

  Step 5

  If you would like an accent color, dip your toothpick into your accent color and swirl it in the shaving cream.

  Step 6

  Gently press your paper or envelope into the shaving cream, tape side up. Press down on all sides and the middle to make sure all parts of the paper are touching the shaving cream. I did some upside down so it created a frame. They ended up being my favorite pieces.

  Step 7

  Carefully pull the paper up from the corner.

• 

  Step 8

  Put the paper onto a cookie sheet or paper towel. Take a folder or ruler and scrape off the excess shaving cream (a ruler is definitely easier, but hey....improvisation works, too, right?). Then wipe the remaining shaving cream off.

  Step 9

  Peel the painter's tape off and admire your work!
