This is a bulkier stopper knot that can be used to prevent the rope from pulling through an object or to prevent an object from sliding off the rope.
KNOT NOTES
Legend has it that around 1910, Clifford Ashley, author of The Ashley Book of Knots, noticed a knot aboard a boat in an oyster fishing fleet. It was lumpy and unrecognizable. What he later determined to be a wet, swollen, and poorly tied Figure Eight Knot had become known as the Oysterman’s Stopper Knot or the Ashley’s Stopper Knot.

You Will Need

Step 1Place a loop in the rope.

Step 2Put a bight in the standing end of the rope and tuck it in the underside of the loop.

Step 3Pull tight, maintaining the bight in the rope.

Step 4Tuck the running end through the bight.

Step 5Pull tight.
