• 

  Step 1

  I'm using a lampshade kit by Needcraft. To make a 20cm drum lampshade you'll need about 25 to 30cm of fabric (more if you want specific fabric placement). My fabric is Chatterbox by Anna Maria Horner.

  Step 2

  Before you start iron your fabric. Any creases will show on your finished lampshade.

• 

  Step 3

  In your lampshade kit you'll have two rings, stiff sticky backed plastic, double sided tape and a little plastic thingamyjig.

• 

  Step 4

  Pull back the backing paper a few inches from the sticky backed plastic and press on to the fabric. Then slowly peal back the paper as you push the plastic onto the fabric. Continue until the plastic is completely stuck down.
  Turn over and stroke the fabric to remove any creases or air bubbles.

  Step 5

  Trim the fabric to be the same size as the plastic. I use a rotary cutter but scissors or a knife work as well.

  Step 6

  Now for the clever bit. On each side of the plastic there is a kiss cut. Bend back the edge and remove it. Repeat on the other side. This gives you exactly the right amount of fabric for your rolled edge later.

  Step 7

  Stick the double sided tape around each lampshade ring and remove the red backing.

• 

  Step 8

  Put the lampshade rings either side of the plastic on your fabric. The rings should sit right on the edge of the plastic. Roll them both at the same time towards the other end.

  Step 9

  Add a strip of double sided tape on the end you are rolling towards and remove the red backing. Continue rolling and push down at the end

• 

  Step 10

  Push the edges over.

• 

  Step 11

  On this end snip the fabric at the point where the bars meet the edge.

• 

  Step 12

  Using the plastic thingamyjig gently push the fabric underneath the rings to create a neat rolled edge.
