I saw this on Outsapop's site years ago and loved it then as I do now. Fabulous. Honestly, I need to make this. I'm wondering about using heavy men's polo shirts to construct this-for wearing in the warmer seasons. hmmmmm.
I love this project so much, but I'm trying to find a sweater like the red one you have do you have any suggestion on where to find cool geometric sweaters like the one you used
Wow, I would totally buy the longer one on the right. But instead, I'll just try and make it now since I have plenty of sweaters in my closet. I just need to figure out how to get the sewing machine working.
In this project I have in fact sewn all seams with a straight stitch. Why? Because my dresspattern is loose enough that no of the seams need to be stretchy. I tried several seamtypes before starting this and the straight stitch was the only one that made a nice clean seam! I´m sure a serger would also do a nice job, but for this I wanted seams that could be ironed open (more flatter seams). This has worked for me fine even though is not really "made by the book".
This project relates to a question I've had for a long time, which is if the parts of a knit/crochet project can be machine-sewn together. I was going to try doing it with a stretch stitch, but you're saying that it should be a straight stitch and no zigzag edge, if I understand you correctly.
Is that what you'd do, or would it be different in that case?
The sweaters I used are bouth wool and wool blend. If you´re worried about fraying you should serge the seams after they are sewn and ironed open. I never bother to do it cause I´m lazy I´ve worn the dress now for two days. Very little fluff/lint has come off, but nothing serious.
I did wash these red/gray sweaters in the washingmachine before sewing (60 degrees, NO WASHING POWDER) just to see what happens. They did not shrink or go woolly. But the sweaters in the pink/gray knit dress I did not wash.
*immediently runs to buy 32374562789 sweaters* :L
