About
Coolest scarf I've made yet
This is a guitar hero scarf that depicts the first part of the Trogdor song from GH2 on medium. It is loosely based on the website linked here. I mostly used it for the pictures, but figured out the buttons and made the main scarf myself.

Here are some similar tutorials to help you make this one!
The buttons were a fly-by-the-seat-of-my-pants kind of thing. I'll do my best to explain them, but for the most part, I just ish'd it.
First I started with a magic ring. http://www.planetjune.com/blog/tutorials/magic-ring-right-handed/ (this is also easily video googled if you're a visual learner like I am)
I started with 5 or 6 sc on the ring and then switched to black and increased 2-3 more stitches evenly around the ring
Switch to your color and add another 2-3 stitches
Switch to white and add 2-3 more.
Make sure to leave ends to tie the colors together and weave in so they don't come undone.
You'll have to play around with how many stitches you would like per color/row and how to join in the colors so that the previous color doesn't show in the last color's row. I would love to tell you how I did it but I tried so many different approaches and it was so long ago that I don't remember.
My buttons had the tendency to curl up towards the center so make sure you're not crocheting too tightly and have enough stitches in each row, especially the last white row. Maybe increase the stitches by 4 instead of 2-3.
When making the beginning buttons (black centers) do 3 rows of black and I recommend using stitch markers to mark the beginning of each row so you don't lose your starting place.
As far as hook size goes, I think I used a 4.25 mm hook. You could try going a little larger. It depends on how big your buttons need to be to look right on your scarf.
Just make a few practice buttons until you develop a rhythm that you like.
If you'd like some more clarification, let me know and I'll try to help the best that I can.
Good luck!
