About
legwarmers and a skirt from a worn out pair of trousers
I don't have any step-by-step photos -because when I start a project I tend to get carried away- but I used some old denim effect trousers to make a mini skirt (I'm assuming everyone knows how to do that but if you want details then just ask). Once that was done I had the legs of the trousers, cut off from mid thigh, left over. Using the machine I then sewed both vertical and horizontal lines onto the tubes of fabric using the shirring elastic instead of cotton on the bobbin (shirring elastic is just thin, strong threading elastic). This ruches the fabric making it more interesting and creating more air pockets for maximum warmth :) Finally I made the top of the legwarmers elasticated, so they stay up, using the thick, flat elastic. I made a channel in the top of the legwarmers by folding over the top of the material and sewing along the bottom making sure to leave a gap to thread the elastic through. Make sure to measure the elastic to slightly smaller than the circumferance of the top of your calf, then thread it through your channel and tie the two ends of the elatic together. Then you can seal the gap in the fabric with a few stitches to neaten it up. Enjoy :)
