  Step 1

  Assemble your supplies and tools. If you don't have bail making pliers, don't worry. You can use the Sharpie marker to make your ear wires! Not pictured: rubber hammer and metal file.

  Step 2

  Cut 2 pieces of wire 3 inches long. This is a good length for 16mm (pictured) buttons, up to about a 20mm.

• 

  Step 3

  Mark each wire at 1 inch on one end. With the round nose pliers, bend the wires on the mark, almost into a hairpin shape.

• 

  Step 4

  Insert them into your buttons.

• 

  Step 5

  Flatten your wires out. If they are uneven, now is the time to trim them.

• 

  Step 6

  With the round nose pliers, curl your short ends. To have your curls going in opposite directions, just flip one button over and curl like the other one.

• 

  Step 7

  With the flat nose pliers, fold the curls up to the front of the buttons and press down. You can also use the pliers (or your fingers) to center the curls.

• 

  Step 8

  Using the bail making pliers, roll the long wires away from the front of the buttons to make the earwires. You can also use the barrel of the Sharpie to make the ear wires. Eyeball them to make sure they shaped the same.

  Step 9

  Fold the tips of the ear wires up a little for easy insertion. Use a metal file, or even an emery board to smooth the ends. With the rubber hammer, gently hammer the curves of your ear wires.

  Step 10

  Take a good look and make any last adjustments.
