Great way to repurpose an old pair of jeans!
In the summer time, instead of buying shorts, I just cut the legs off, of my kids ripped jeans, and sew the hem. I saved all the pants "cut-offs", don't know why, because, I didn't have a purpose in mind. Until one day I looked at them and realised if I just sew the bottom... voilá... instant bag!
So I decided to put together a little tutorial, showing how you can turn "cut-offs" into a little draw-string bag.

  • How to make a drawstring pouch. Draw String Bag - Step 1
    Step 1

Get everything you need together. Cut your pants "cut-offs" to the length desired. Cut your fabric scraps to the desired length plus 5cm (1.9"). You'll need two pieces for the lining. Sew your double fold bias binding.

Turn your "cut-offs" wrong side out (WSO) and sew the raw edges with a 1cm (3/8") seam allowance (SA). Finish the SA with a zig-zag or an overlock stitch. Trim the corners.

Take your two pieces of fabric for the lining, place them right sides together (RST) and sew 1cm (3/8") SA. Leave one of the sides open. Press the seams open. Fold the open end to the wrong side by 5cm (1.9"), so the right side of the fabric is in sight.

Place your lining bag inside the "cut-off" with wrong sides together (WST). The folded end of the lining bag should be peaking out. Sew using the hem as a guideline. You can use a decorative stitch as an option.

Sew 1cm (3/8") from the edge of the lining bag. Unpick the side seam.

Run the bias tape through the open seam. And you're done!
