You Will Need
-
Step 3
First draw a diamond pattern onto 2 of your cotton bases. Pin a batting base onto each of your cotton bases with the design. Now sew over the diamond design so that the batting and cotton are connected and the fabric kind of poufs.
-
Step 4
Take your two "decoration" pieces, place them good side to good side, and sew them together. Then cut a straight slit in the center top about 4 inches. Inside out. Zig zag stitch the edges then fold them back and sew it (the edges) down. The decoration should have a nice and clean front now.
-
Step 5
Place your decoration on one of your diamond bases, this is going to be the front. Mark where the slit is in the decoration onto the base and then cut a slit where you marked. Zigzag stitch, fold back and sew down.
Take your two pocket pieces and sew together on 3 sides. The side that is not sewn should have a 5" difference. -
Step 6
Now we're going to take the zipper and pin it behind the slit of the base. Sew it on. Next pin the pocket onto the zipper fabric in the back. The shorter part of the pocket should go onto the bottom part of the zipper back, and the taller part needs to be pinned on above the zipper back, on the higher part. Sew on the bottom part first, then the top. Now your pocket is installed!
To clean it up, and make it just like the actual bag, take the decoration, line up the slit with the zipper, pin it on and sew around it. -
Step 7
Pin the leftover cotton bases on to the backs of the quilted ones, then place them good side to good side, sew around and inside out.
Sew your two tops together at the sides, then putting it right side out, fold it in half. The rough edges can be pinned onto the top of the base and sewn. Flip the top up and it's almost done. -
Step 8
Cut out a long rectangle out of cotton for the strap. Make it however long you like. The width should be about 3" to 6". Fold it in half, sew, inside out, then fold in the edges. Sew the strap onto your bag. The metal rings I added are optional.
So I hope you understood this tutorial, feel free to ask questions if you don't understand anything!
