Crochet Praying Mantis

Cute but deadly
The Orchid Mantis, Hymenopus coronatus.

This is the most complicated amigurumi I've ever made. Created from scratch, on the fly, based on photos of mantises and pictures of the knitted version. I ripped out many pieces at first because they were too skinny or didn't look right. Then it took forever to sew everything together and add the colour details.

The best part came when all was said and done and this girl could stand on her own.
