• 

  Step 1

  first, your'e going to need to get your lineart and put it on something which you don't mind getting smudgey. ink will probably seep through the paper if you're using the proper stuff. I'm using my other sketchbook here.

• 

  Step 2

  let's start off with the hair ('cos it's fun!). leave a white space for a highlight. then cover it with yur basic colour. here's the trick- darken some areas by going over them again to give it body and depth.

  Step 3

  now you've done that, go over darker areas again!

  Step 4

  finally use a slightly darker pen to create even more shadow.

• 

  Step 5

  do this for any other hair.

• 

  Step 6

  now do this for clothing. I've picked the girl's dress. notice that the highlight is smaller as fabric is less reflective (unless you're character's wearing a satin ballgown or something.)

  Step 7

  do your once-overs and twice-overs as befrore. use these to highlight the shape of the body and folds of the fabric.

• 

  Step 8

  now use your darker colour as before.

• 

  Step 9

  now colour the rest of it like this. the pants come next.

• 

  Step 10

  do a grid in light grey. use the lines to show the contaurs of the body.

  Step 11

  now do the same thing, offset, with a darker grey. shade it with a light grey.

• 

  Step 12

  to do the lips, make the hape with a darker skin tone.

•

  then go over it in pink.

• 

  Step 14

  do the colour of the eyes, leaving a highliht.

• 

  Step 15

  make the shape of the pupil and add some shadow with the same colour.

• 

  Step 16

  then mark the pupil with a darker colour.

• 

  Step 17

  now scan it in. import it into gimp (or photoshop, I beleive) and go to 'levels'. increase the levels of white (to even out the background) and black (to sharpen the lines)

  Step 18

  then go over any unwanted bits with an eraser. to make sure you can post it on things, go to file> save as then put .jpeg at the end of your file name. choose to flatten the image and don't make the quality any less than 75%. now you are done!
