    Start by measuring your sewing machine from the back to the front.

    Cut out templates for the pocket. You need a rectangle as large as your book with an extra 1/2" around every side. A matching rectangle with rounded corners at the bottom and two little buckle shapes.

    Pin your templates to your fabric.

    Cut out two of the rectangles for the pouch, two of the rounded rectangles for the flap and four buckles.

    Pin the buckles on top of each other, wrong sides facing out. Sew around the outside edges, leaving the top edge unstitched. Fold inside out and then sew up the top edge. Repeat for the other buckle.

    Measure around the sides and bottom of the pouch and cut a rectangle long enough to fit and as wide as your book plus your regular seam allowance.

    Place the two rounded for the flap on top of each other, wrong sides facing out, sew around the edge leaving a gap. Fold inside out and sew the open edge closed.

    Sew the two rectangles for the pocket together around the outline, with the wrong sides of the fabric facing up but leave a small opening. Turn inside out and stitch closed the opening.

    Fold the long rectangle of fabric in half lengthways and then fold either side in half, so that the raw edges meet in the middle. Sew along the bottom edge and then fold in either edge at the sides and sew neatly.

    I like to keep my sewing patterns in A4 envelopes and I wanted to add a pouch for the pattern I was working on at the back of my cover. Cut a rectangle of fabric to the same width as your cover but a little shorter and pin over all of the edges. Sew along the top edge.

    Remove your finished cover from your machine, pop up the sewing machine's handle and place your cover back on.

    Finally, cut a couple of foam ears to embellish the top of your cover. It's best to use white foam but I only had green. Place the foam ears on top of your fabric and cut four fabric ears with a little seam allowance around the edges.

    With two ears on top of each other, wrong sides facing out and the foam in the middle for a template, s around the top top edges.

    Fold the ear inside out and place over the foam.
