Wearable pincushion to keep those pesky straight pins close
I decided I wanted a pincushion to go on my bracelet, and I had a butterfly template lying around from when I was making my daughter's play mat, so voila.

  • Step 1

Make your pattern. You can draw out a butterfly, or you can snag a template of the internet. I did the latter.

  • Step 2

Fold your felt in half or lay two pieces on top of each other, however you prefer doing it, and cut out the butterfly shape.

  • Step 3

Lay the two pieces on top of each other. Stitch around the edges. I used a basic stitch because I like the unpolished crafty look.
To hide the end of your thread, first go under the top piece of felt, then continue stitching.

  • Step 4

When you have sewn about three quarters of the way on one side, stuff that side. Stitch off around one part of the wing, then the bottom part. ( The butterfly should have 4 separate compartments to his wing if you choose to do this step)

This step is optional, if you skip this step, just continue stitching and stuff later.

  • Step 5

After you have stuffed, it is time to add the finishing touches.
I stitched off the center part of the butterfly because I didn't stuff it, and wanted it to be distinct from the other parts so that they stood out more.
Sew an elastic band together and stitch it to the bottom.

If you choose to add a bow like I did just for the heck of it, go for it. :)
