You Will Need
-
Step 1
First of all, you have to cut the fabric.
The length has to be twice the size you want you bow tie.
So, you have to cut two big rectangles and, if you want a double bow tie, two small rectangles (this are half the big ones).
You'll also have to cut another rectangle for the centre.
-
Step 2
Once you have everything cut, you have to sew it.
I doy it with needle just because is more confortable to me and I can do it anywhere, but it would be faste if you sew it on the machine.
-
Step 3
Sew the big rectangles front to front and turn them over.
Then, gather and join the ends. This has to be made using the needle.
After doing this, pass the needle trough the middle of the rectangle and start gathering, so you make a bow.
I know this is quite difficult to see but when you're doing it is quite simple :).
-
Step 4
Do the same with the little rectangles.
-
Step 5
Now, all you have to do is join both bows and make the centre.
For the centre, fold the piece of fabric you cutted so it fits well the space between the "wings" of the bows. Then sew it on the back of the bow tie.
-
Step 6
Now you have your bow tie ready and all you have to do is the strap !
This is the most simple but complicated step.
Giving you some advice, I would say that if you're the one who will be wearing the bow tie you can measure your neck, sew a piece of fabric and use whatever you want as a clasp (I used a soda can top for my firts bow tie ha,ha! ).
However, if you're gonna give it as a present or for someone you don't know (as I have to), you'd better make an adaptable strap.
-
Step 7
My adaptable straps have got the same system as a bra.
I bought some kind of elastic lace and some adjusters on the notion store.
First, fold up a little the end of the lace and then fold it again leaving a space to bar the clasp. Sew it to the back of the bow.
Then pass the adjuster through the lace and then the clasp. Now, pass again the lace through the adjuster and sew it. It would be quite useful to have a bra in front of you while you read this ha, ha!

Step 8
Done !
Now you have a lovely bow tie for giving to someone special or just for being the coolest of your town :D
