Get your creative juices flowing and design your own lampshade
Dive in to your fabric and craft stash to create something truly unique. Once you have mastered the basic drum lampshade you are ready to create your own panel using whatever fabrics, ribbon and buttons you have to hand.

Step 1
The finished lampshade panel needs to be about 30cm x 110cm.
Get together the fabrics and trims that you want to use. I've chosen to fat quarters from my stash as the base for my panel.
Step 2
I cut both fat quarters to be 30cm deep, keeping them 55cm (22") wide.
Step 3
Lay the two pieces right side together. Match up one short edge and pin.
Step 4
Sew with a narrow seam allowance.
Step 5
Iron the seam flat.
Step 6
Sew along each side of the seam. This makes sure everything lays flat when you make up your lampshade.
Step 7
I have then used Bondaweb on the pieces I want to use for applique; iron the Bondaweb onto the back of your fabric pieces, peal off the paper backing, cut your shapes and iron in position).
Step 8
Sew around your applique shapes using the stitch of your choice.
Step 9
Add as much or as little as you like.
Step 10
Using a 30cm Needcraft lampshade kit use your panel to make a lampshade (I have done another post about making lampshades using these kits).
Step 11
I wanted to cover the join between the two fabrics. To do this I have put some of the double sided tape from the lampshade kit on the back of a piece of ribbon and stuck it in place.
