About
... Now you know where to put that key !!!
a little accessory like a key ring cosy ? It makes your keys less anonymous and it's so nice to look at it while hanging from a door or in a car! This cosy has a little pocket to slide in your keys, so they'll not scratch or tangle with anything precious in your bag ! Clever and useful at the same time, even if the sun is a little bit tricky to crochet with 2 colours ...
I suggest you to try only with one colour the first time you will have a go with this pattern, ok? ;oD
please note that I follow US crochet terminology!

Step 1
PATTERN
Pick the colour (A) chosen for the "sun" motif to stand out from the background (B).
With A make a slip knot on the hook and chain 4. Insert the hook in the first chain and slip stitch to form a ring.
FIRST ROUND:
Chain 1 and crochet your first double crochet (DC) into the ring. Make 11 more DCs, and close this round with a slip stitch in the top of the first DC. You have 12 DCs. Pull the yarn in the centre of the circle (work in the back of it), to close the hole and trim.
SECOND ROUND (look at some pics at the end of this photo tutorial!) :
You need to know how to crochet a "Front Post double crochet (FPdc)" , that is a DC round the front post of a stitch of the previous row/round : you have to wrap the yarn around the hook, insert the hook from front to back to front around post of indicated stitch, wrap yarn around hook, draw up loop,[wrap yarn around hook and draw up through 2 loops on hook] twice.
I suggest you to watch some YouTube video tutorials : just type "how to crochet front post double crochet" and you'll discover a lot of useful tips! After that, go back to the pattern to follow :
You have to join the background colour (B).
Join this colour with a chain 1, then make your first DC. In the same stitch make even your first FPdc! wrap the yarn around the hook, insert the hook front/back/front the post, wrap yarn around hook, pull yarn, wrap yarn, and make a classic DC : pass trough 2 loops, wrap yarn, pass through 2 last loops : done!
insert yarn in next stitch, make 1DC, make 1 FPdc : repeat this pattern 11 times!
You'll have 24 stitches (12 DCS+12 FPdc).
To close this second round, just make a slip stitch in the top of your first DC.
REMEMBER :
The normal DC is crocheted with colour B, while the FPdc is crocheted with colour A.
Before starting a new stitch, overlap the colour you need over the colour that you don't need : in this way you'll bring on both colours, that will look twisted in the back of your work. -
Step 2
THIRD ROUND :
With the background colour, chain 1 and crochet your first DC.
overlap A, overlap B and make a DC with B in the next stitch, then overlap A and crochet a FPdc !
So again : overlap B and crochet a normal DC in the new stitch;
then, overlap A, overlap B and crochet a DC in the following stitch, then overlap A and make another FPdc !
Continue in this way until the last FPdc is done!
Close this round with a slip stitch in the top of the first DC, using colour B.
You have a total of 36 stitches : 24 DCs+12 FPdc -
Step 5
Now, you need to crochet the back of your key ring cosy.
This is very simple : you have to crochet 3 rounds of a basic DC circle.
Make a slip knot on the hook and chain 4, with the colour you prefer ( I use the same colour of the sun).
Insert the hook in the first chain and make a slip stitch to form a ring.ROUND 1 : chain 1, crochet 12 DCs into the ring. Make a slip stitch in the top of the first DC to close this round. You have 12 DCs.
ROUND 2 : chain 1 and crochet 2 DCs in the top of each stitch. Close this round, too, with a slip stitch in the top of the first DC. You have 24 DCs.
ROUND 3 : chain 1 and make a DC in the top of the first stitch, then 2 DCS in the second stitch. The pattern to follow : 1 DC in odd stitches + 2 DCs in even stitches !!
Close this round with a slip stitch in the top of the first DC.
You have 36 DCs.
DON'T CUT THE YARN !!!
If you like, just trim the yarn at the centre! ;oD
