Hey there, can you introduce yourself?
Hello! We Are Photogirls was started by two friends, Emily & Celia who met at art college in the 1990s. We are a London based organisation specializing in celebrating style, fashion and photography with teenagers through events, projects and fashion shoot parties. We also consult and art direct for those looking to engage the teenage mind. We Are Photogirls strongly believe that everyone is beautiful and that everyone's unique style and beauty should be encouraged and celebrated!
Tell us a bit about the book?
The book is crammed with everything we've learnt, discovered and created along the way! From practical tips on art directing and styling, to off the wall ideas on how to make props it is filled with eccentric fashion shoot projects for you to stamp your own creativity on.
What was the inspiration behind it?
One of our favourite things about running We Are Photogirls is meeting and working with teenagers and seeing their amazing ideas come to life. We wanted to share our We Are Photogirls world with even more people, so we thought a book would be a great way to do this. So wherever you are in the world you can now join in from the comfort of your own home!
Which is your favourite project?
Food Glorious Food! Super fun (and sometimes super messy), Food Glorious Food unleashes the hidden creative potential of food to make mind blowing props and jewellery.
What is your craft space like?
Exploding with books, postcards, posters, clothes, props and cameras...
Have you always been creative?
We both loved creative subjects at school and then both went on to study art and photography, so yes!
When did you first start crafting?
We've always loved making things. As kids we both loved making pop up books and collages.
Who are your crafty heroes?
One of the amazing things about making the book was finding artists and makers who make wonderful creations....there are so many it's hard to list them all, but Fred Butler, Piers Atkinson, Madame Peripetie, Zim & Zou are just a few!
Where do you find inspiration?
Absolutely everywhere! Inspiration can be found all around - the streets, books, galleries, boot fairs and of course, the rabbit hole that is the internet.....!
What's next for you?
We are very, very excited about a photography trip to South Africa this month!
