Making a prom dress disaster!!
I'm making a prom dress for my sister and I'm nearly done....all I need to do now is put the zip in and hem the bottom of it. However, the dress seems not to fit now (it fitted before, and I haven't cut it at all). I will be putting an invisible zip in, but I can't actually squeeze the dress onto her....
her prom thingy is o Friday, so I really need your advice!
Thanks xxx
check your seam allowances to see if you can let the dress out a little. It's probably the seam allowance in the zipper that caused it to become too small. You will have to see if you can find extra allowance in your other seams.
Thanks PinkWeeds....the dress is this paper pattern http://www.simplicitynewlook.com/1420/ and dress C, the bodice has been attached to the waistband and there's no seam allowance in the waistband because it's pleated horizontally...sorry I should have made that clear :/
ARRGHHH panic!!
I'm sorry! This is terrible! I hope you can fix this problem!
Can you tell me how the dress is(or is not) fitting? Is it a circumference problem? As in the dress won't fit around her?
If this is the case, I don't think you can fix this without getting extremely creative. I have some ideas, but I'm not sure if your going to like it.

hey Zero W.... yeah the problem is the fact that it's not fitting around her waist. Like, the bodice is fine, but I literally have to pull it *so* tight around her waist and she basically can't breathe :/
Please!! Tell me any idea you have, I'm so desperate because I need it done before Friday and I have limited time due to exams too D;
Ah, I'm going to try and take out the pleats a little around the skirt, and make them more shallow. This should *hopefully* add a little bit more on each side! Wish me luck!
(but Zero W. I'm still keen on hearing your ideas if you're willing to share) ^^
Excellent thinking, Steph!
I had a few idea's but, considering that you are short on time (and quite possibly fabric! D: ) I have selected one for you personally. I will post the others soon, too. Here's the first idea. It may seem a bit old fashioned, but I'm sure it would cover some things up~! If you know what I mean.

Zero! Thank you so much! I can't thank you enough, that's a really good idea and a really cute illustration you gave me
Thankfully I've let out the pleats and it's seeming to work fine...the only problem that might come up is the zipper being ruffled when I insert it but I'll work it out when that comes
Thanks again ^^
Last time I bought a dress from the charity shop that was too small I cut up the back centre and corset laced it up instead, don't know if it would suit your dress style though
oops it's the wrong way up :/ but anyhow, I'll be posting the project here soon ^^
beautiful work, can't wait to see it on here
Excellent work, Steph!
I'm glad everything worked out! And, the dress is gorgeous! I love the color choice, it really fits the dress and your sister.
I'm glad you liked the illustrations. I didn't know how else to describe what I meant. Some times drawings are better at getting some points across.

And Zero, yes, the fabric especially goes with her hair colour (I'm so glad she chose that).
thanks so much for your help!
This same thing happened to me when I was making a tight around the waist dress for special occasions. I just quit on mine, but I'm glad you got yours taken care of! Also now at least you know you're not alone
