• 

  Step 1

  Things you will need:

  1) Fabric - Cut 2 rectangles
  2) Lining Fabric - Cut 2 rectangles
  3) Interfacing (optional)
  4) Felt cut into any shape you like (I chose an elephant for this bag)
  5) Zipper - 6 inch
  6)Sewing Machine (with zipper foot if you have once)

  NB. This tutorial makes a bag 18cmx15cm. You can use this tutorial to make zippered bags any size. Just remember to make sure that you have an appropriate sized zip and to add a 1cm seam allowance when cutting your fabric.

  Step 2

  Step 1: Stitch your felt onto the bottom left corner of one of your fabric pieces. Make sure that you place it a minimum of 1.5cm away from the edge to allow for seam allowance.

  Step 3

  Step 2: Place one piece of your main fabirc right side up on top of the interfacing.

  Then place the zip on top of this- make sure that the wrong side of the zip is facing upwards (i.e. right sides together).

  Place one pin on the bottom of the zip just to temporarily hold it all together.

  Step 4

  Step 3: Now place one of the lining pieces (right side down) ontop of everything and pin into place.

  NB. If your zip is a little long - don’t worry - it can be trimmed later.

  Step 4: Using a zipper foot on your sewing machine, stitch all of the layers together as close to the zip as you can.

  Step 5

  Step 5: Once stitched together, flip the lining fabric and zip over and iron into place.

  Step 6

  Step 6: Again using the zipper foot, top stitch as close to the zipper as you can. This helps keep the layers in place.

• 

  Step 7

  Step 7: Now you need to repeat for the other side of the zip.

  This time place your main fabric wrong side down (so that your right sides are facing each other (like in the picture). Then place the interfacing on top of this. Place one pin to hold everything in place.

  Step 8

  Step 8: It should be looking something like this .....

  Now flip everything over and place the lining fabric (right side down), pin everything together and stitch as close to the zip as possible.

  Step 9

  Step 9 flip over the main fabric and zip and iron into place. Top stitch as close to the zipper as possible.

  Step 10

  Step 10: Make sure that the zip is at least half way open (this is to allow you to turn the bag once it is sewn together). Pin the open end of the zip together to keep everything in line whilst you are stitching.

  You then need to pin the two main pieces of fabric and the two lining pieces of fabric (right sides together). It should look like this photo.

  Then stitch all the way around the edge leaving a 5 cm gap in the lining to allow you to turn your bag to the right side.

  Step 11

  Once you are done stitching, turn your bag, press it and use a slip stitch to sew the gap in the lining shut. It should hopefully look a little like some of these pictures!

  P.S if you are super lucky you get some extra help from a very nosy bunny. Luckily the iron was switched off!
