Wooden Jewelry Box
My Neighbor Totoro themed jewelry box for my daughter's growing jewelry collection. Inspired by a photo I saw on Pinterest but the blog is no longer up.

  • Step 1

Paint the front panel with white paint.
Continue to paint the rest of the outside of box with gray paint.
Paint the inside of the box the gray.
    Allow to dry.

  • Step 2

With the black paint, make rounded shapes on the inside corners of the box lid to create Soot Sprites.
    Allow to dry.

  • Step 3

With white paint, paint eyes on lid. It may take a few coats of paint to cover the gray. When dry, with black paint, finish eyes.
Paint the nose, mouth and whiskers with black paint.
On the front of the box, paint the small arches on Totoro's chest with gray paint.
There should be 3 on the top row and 4 on the bottom row.
    Allow to dry.

  • Step 4

Paint the eye balls of the Soot Sprites with white paint.
When dry, with black paint, finish eyes.

  • Step 5

When your project is completely dry, brush all surfaces with Mod Podge to seal it. Apply as many coats as you prefer.

  • Step 6

Cut green felt to size to line the bottom of the box. Use Mod Podge to glue felt down.
Cut green felt into a triangular shape for leaf and a tiny sliver for the leaf stem.
Apply Mod Podge to leaf and place on lid so that it folds over to the back side of the box. Apply Mod Podge to stem and attach to leaf.

  • Step 7

Set aside and allow to completely dry. I let mine sit overnight.
