Thread together, pin together
This looked so cute in the book, I had to try it. But instead of doing the whole thing with felt I added a piece of fabric for the pin cushion part. And instead of doing the felted 1" circles for the middle, I just used a button.
But it turned out cute, and it would make a great gift.

  • How to make a sewing kits. Thread Caddy - Step 1
    Step 1

Start with 2 circles 8 inches in diameter. I had an 8" embroidery hoop, so I used that to trace.
The same with the one 5" circle
    (this is for the pincushion)

    Step 2

So you should end up with two 8" circles and one 5" circle.

    Step 3

With some embroidery thread I did a running stitch around the edge of each 8" circle.

    Step 4

You're supposed to stack the circles on top of each other and do a running stitch through all 3. I didn't. I just did a blanket stitch around the 5" and one of the 8" circles. Because I was using regular fabric for the pincushion I didn't think that the stuffing would stay inside with just a running stitch. Also to keep the edges from fraying.

    Step 5

I left a 3" gap and started adding the stuffing

    Step 6

Close off and then I stacked the circles on top of each other.

    Step 7

Pin where you want to tack. She says to picture a clock and picture the sections at 12,2,4,6,8,and 10 o'clock.
But as usual I didn't do that. But perhaps if you have large spools of thread, go with what the book says.

    Step 8

Here I sew tacked with 2 stitches about 1/2" from the edges. (Kind of in the middle)

    Step 9

After sewing the the tacks and my button through the middle I ended up with 8 spots for spools of thread. So with some ribbon, I gathered my spools and with a large eye needle I threaded the ribbon through the sewn tacks and spools of thread.

    Step 10

As you thread the spools you can start pulling the ribbon taught, at the end leave enough excess to tie a bow.

    Step 11

Tie your bow and there you go!
    I'm sure there's more instructions, but..this works.
