  • How to make a halter dress. Super Simple Sack Dress - Step 1
    Step 1

Cut two pieces from your jersey knit fabric. Each piece should be 30 x 31 in.

    Step 2

From the top down 9 in. fold in and pin both sides of the material 1/4 in.

Do this to both sides of the two pieces of fabric.

    Step 3

Sew the places you've pinned. A straight stitch will do but I used a zigzag.

    Step 4

Fold and pin the top of the pieces down 1 1/2in. This is the place where we will be sliding the straps in.

Then sew across the pinned places with two straight lines.

The front of the fabric will look like this.

    Step 6

Pin the front sides of the two pieces together below the 9 in. that are already sewn over.

Sew a straight line down both pinned sides.

    Step 7

    To make the Straps:

Cut strips of material from the cotton you chose for straps.

The strips should be 2 in. wide and as long as your pieces of material is.

Cut enough strips so that you'll have 150 in when they are sewn end to end.

    Step 8

Pin and sew the ends of the strips together to make one long, skinny piece of fabric.

    Step 9

Fold in the sides of the material and pin them together. The piece should be 1 in wide now.

This part can be tricky, just be patient.

    Step 11

fold in and pin the bottom of the dress 1 in. to make the hem. Sew along the edge. I used a zigzag stitch to make sure the edge doesn't come up.

    Step 12

Run a safety pin through the end of the strap piece.

  • How to make a halter dress. Super Simple Sack Dress - Step 13
    Step 13

Push the safety pin and strap it is attached to through the space in the top of the dress, which was made in step 4. Push the strap through the first side of the dress, across the gap in the side, and through the second side.

The fabric will be gathered along this strap to achieve the various styles.

OMG--Step 11 is genius! Using a zig-zag stitch so the hem doesn't roll? Why didn't I think of that?! Thanks for sharing! =D
