Finally! Polyester with a purpose!
I altered a 100% polyester dress for a super petite friend. This left me with about a 3 feet by 4 inch strip of sheer polyester floral print. So I made these "flowers" to use as barrettes for my daughter. Really easy albeit slightly dangerous.... fire is involved to singe the edges and curl the "petals" ..... but such a pretty result!

Sure you could "buy" material to do this project... But look in your closet. I'm sure there is some polyester in there you need to just LET GO. Admit it.

There are a couple of versions out on the web.. google "organza flowers tutorial"

basically, cut circle like shapes in different sizes. Don't aim for perfection, you'll just ruin it with the fire.

Use tongs or tweezers to hold the shape near the open flame of the candle until the edge singes. turn until the entire perimeter is singed.

blow out the candle.

Pile the shapes until you like the look of the flower and secure with a stitch or two in the middle. Add an embellishment to the middle like beads or a poly jewel or some paint or glitter.

and you are done.
