a dino for my fiance's keys
I made a deinonychus keyring for my fiancé because he loves dinosaurs and a deinonychus is his favourite. It looks like a velociraptor.
I'm proud of it, it was my first time using shrink plastic.

  • Step 1

First off, I asked my guy what his favourite dinosaur was. He said deinonychus so I googled it and confirmed I had the correct image.
I selected one I like and printed it off.

    Step 2

I traced the image onto clear shrink plastic then turned it over and coloured it in.
Then I punched a hole above its head and cut it out. Cutting it out was a bit tricky.

    Step 3

I turned the oven on to 175 degrees C (350 degrees F) and watched it (as per the instructions).
"The plastic will curl and twist. WAIT UNTIL IT LIES FLAT. It will then be pliable and fully shrunk."
I watched it do this, it was awesome!
The instructions said to flattened it but it was already flat.

    Step 4

I added a jump ring and attached it to a keyring. Now I just have to give it to him. I hope he likes it.

i need a heat gun, just for the fun and ease of not turning on the oven Tongue i was worried at first that it would stick to itself - it curled up so much.
I was going to make a fimo dino but decided that copying a picture was easier then sculping with fingerprints. annoyingly when I cut it the plastic sort of broke in the corners because of the way i cut it, but it's a learning curve.

Awww, thats cute (in a "gobbets of flesh hanging from the teeth" kinda way)

Shrink Plastic is awesome! I NEVER get tired watching it work...its like art-meets-science-meets-magic Happy
It's cool when you use a heatgun - then you can REALLY see it do its stuff!
