My First Attempt. Turned out great!!
My cousin commissioned me to make her an elf costume, like something from Lord of the Rings. This is the corset I made for it. I have never made an actual corset before this, I actually got to use boning. I do not use patterns and I had no idea what I was doing. It turned out so great. The rest of the costume is in the pictures above and it labeled as Elf/Renaissance Costume. Go check it out!!

    Step 2

i measured the length of torso i wanted it to cover.

    Step 3

i did cut it at first in one long strip, accounting for seams after cutting into sections

    Step 4

i cut it in sections. using a mannequin to help cut the curvature.

    Step 5

i sewed bias tape to the edge, then folded it over for where the eyelets would go. i hemmed the top and bottoms.

    Step 6

pinning on panel to the other so that i can figure extra trimming or wider seam. the front edges here are folded over for boning. i used feather lite boning, and regret it. next time i will use plastic boning for better structure.

    Step 7

just missing the front panel. the front panel will be underneath the front sides. because of the boning in them. so the only edges of the front center panel that need to be hemmed, are the top and bottom

the back before the eyelets are put in for lacing.

    Step 9

the front panel added in. i actually ran out of material. i had to add two pieces together, and i hid that seam with a strip. it looks decent, but did not allow me any room to adjust my seams. so there is a puff in the front, and does not sit flush to the skin. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE ENOUGH MATERIAL: its a pain otherwise, especially on a time limit.

    Step 10

adding the eyelets. i evenly spaced them. you can add as many, or few, as you want. and even use larger eyelets. i just like the small ones. keeps the edges from gaping when laced.

    Step 11

all laced up. and there are so many different ways to lace corsets. but this is super basic. you can even skip every other eyelet. it takes a while either way.
